September September 23-27th

Hello Parents,
This week we have been focused on the comprehension strategy of making predictions. This is a great way for us to improve our understanding of the texts that we read. As we read to you this weekend and each night at home, ask me to guess what may happen next in the story. You may also ask me how I think the character might be feeling at that moment and why.

We also created a classroom resource to support us in correct formation of numerals. Here is a photo of our hard work. This also has the place value blocks attached to it to represent what the quantity actually looks like. This will help us when we begin more complex computation as it strengthens our estimation skills.

Classroom Alphabet

Last week we created our own classroom phonetic alphabet. We brainstormed objects that begin with the letter sounds. Here you will find a visual of that alphabet. This helps us to read and sound out words when we spell by reminding us of the letter sounds as we go.
Hopefully you find this a useful tool at home!

September 9th- 13th

We had a wonderful week welcoming Mrs. Fernandez!

Our focus this week has been building our stamina. We have been writing, visual journalling, modeling, and discussing our learning. In each task, our focus has been building our own ability to focus.

Each day, we have been participating in mindfulness activities. We are strengthening our ability to focus our minds and calm our bodies. Ask me at home how we have been practicing this!

In our bags, you will find our Feedback Friday folders. This has an example of our writing and math from the week. Celebrate our work with us!

Next week, we hope to meet you all during conferences. Please follow this link to sign up for a slot with your child's teacher.
